Neil Sedaka is one of my favorite singer and songwriter and started learning music at a very youg age of 4. He has written thousands of songs for the pleasure of those who listen to his music. He is from Brooklyn, New York and got his start listening to the DooWop 50's music. He and some friends made a group while attending Lincoln Highschool and they named the group the Linc-Tones. He wanted to have a Doctorate Degree in Classical Music, but rock set his heart fluttering. His first song being, "While I Dream", The group had problems and dissolved. A few years later they did re group, had a new name, the "Tokens" and they had a hit song, "The Lion Sleep Tonight".
While he was working on a 2 year scholarship at Julliard School Of Music he wrote many songs and sold them to many popular groups. Among them are: Connie Francis: "Stupid Cupid" (his first number one hit) and "Where The Boys Are"
The Fifth Dimension: "Working On A Groovy Thing"
Davey Jone's: "Rainy Jane"
The Captain and Tenille: "Love Will Keep Us Together".
Going to England seems to be what it took for him to get out of the slump that he was in and had a great singer/songwriter help him out of the hole. Elton John helped bring his career back when writing a song for him by the name of, Sedaka Is Back. I remember hearing that everywhere and also remember it being played on the Television show "Captain and Tenille". I also remember it being hidden in some other songs that were playing in the 70's. Now that was creative advertising!
Neil is still going strong at age 70 and he is not stopping anytime soon. What a great singer/songwriter we have in him. His Fanclub are trying to get him inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Read and Sign the Petition Below.
Everyone remembers the songs like: "Calender Girl" and "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do", but do you know some of the other songs that are more like ballads? Some of those songs are played and sung in the videos below.

I never knew he was in the Tokens; that is really cool. The Lion Sleeps Tonight was a great song.
