Camelot and Avalon

Hi,

my story is long but here it is. Since the age of 2, i have dreamed of an island surrounded by water and mist. An island with apple trees and stone monuments. I always see myself as a little girl running through the woods and collecting various stones and laughing. I see huge old trees twisted and contorted in various shapes. I dream of a well with this weird symbol on it...and two springs...one spring is red. I always see myself wearing long dresses with some type of garland around my head. I see myself in this old stone fortress on top of this island with big columns and herbs and plants and trees. The atmosphere in this place is so calm. Chaos and dissention does not exist here. i see myself making medicine out of plants, and I see myself standing in the middle of stones that are kind of arranged in a circle. Then, I have dreams I'm in some type of temple, and it looks ancient because its all stone and lit by candles and torches. I see myself crying and running through the temple so i can weep in peace. I see this dark skinned woman watch me with compassion like she wants to help but is powerless to do anything. Then I see wars....and the weapons look old like swords and daggers....people are fighting and its always some type of religious fight. I see villages and monuments burning. Then i dream of a king dying in a boat with 3 women around him. Then i dream of dying in a massive flood as the island i live on floods and I see myself holding on to a tall stone tower and weeping, with another woman holding on beside me. We look at each other and this dark skinned woman always says...I will find you....this is not the end.

Those were just my dreams up until i hit college. I am now 22 years old and in my junior year of school. I took a british literature class and we read excerpts from arthurian legends and the mists of avalon and the teacher showed us pictures of a place called Glastonburry, england. When i saw the images on the projecter screen in class I could not believe my eyes....I felt so many emotions at once. happiness, grief, longing....a coming home type feeling. I was seeing the very places and images i had dreamed about all my life. I grew up a strong Christian so i didnt believe in re-incarnation up until a year ago when all this happened. Since then, i have been through past life regression therapy and all 3 counselors have traced everything back to me being some type of priestess in Avalon and glastonburry. I have always loved magic, even though christianity says its eveil, I feel a connection to nature and animals and herbal remedies come naturally to me. people with English accents fascinate me. I love wearing long pretty dresses and I love the moon. I love water and sometimes I have visions when i look in water or the flame of a candle....and i remember a point in time when pagans and Christians lived together peacefully...before patriarchal religion killed thousands, degraded women, and told people how to think. In avalon, human beings created their own heaven and hell by their own thoughts and actions and as long as peoples personal beliefs did not harm anyone....people were tolerant of each other, women were valued as much as men, and God was both male and female....until visitors came near the island, the wars started and the island flooded....until mainstream religion made this beautiful place a myth and a legend. But i remember...Avalon. I remember fighting for it, and dying hanging on to it with the promise of a dark skinned love who would find me later. Its like we knew death wasn't it....there was more.

So thats my story. I'm only 22 but I feel so old. I work in a corporate building on a salary job...i hate college parties and connect with people twice my age...I just never though i could be this old with such a rich history. It feels so good to have found myself...

Thank you for sharing your story.

I have seen myself with as a young queen (among other things) in deep meditation.

I was raised Catholic, also, but am totally spiritual now.

I think the religion matters not -the inner peace and magic do!

Hi Lady genuivere,

so in my british History class today, my professor laid out a timeline that confirms every re-occuring dream and vision I have had throughout my life. here are the time periods I feel that i might have lived in based on my dreams, visions, and historical facts.

200 BCE – 100 CE Likely period of Druid college and perpetual choir at Glastonbury

47 CE Roman invasion (started 43 CE) reaches Somerset (Avalon left untouched)

400 Collapse of Roman sea defences with sea-level rises – large-scale flooding of western Moors – high water levels until 800s

433 Arrival of St Patrick in Glastonbury – sets up a proper monastic order at Glastonbury

450 Glastonbury becomes home to Celtic hermits

664 Synod of Whitby brings decline of the Celtic British church

late 600s Arrival of the Saxons in Somerset.

I've also had dreams about France. I see women and children in old stone looking prison cells with moss on the walls and women being tortured and burned at the stake for being a so called witch. I see people being persecuted and beheaded all in the name of religion, and a part of me wonders...would this have happened if the priestesses of Avalon had not been banished and imprisoned or forced to convert to Christianity when the Romans came? How many wars and lives could have been spared if the priestesses of Avalon had succeeded in their mission to keep the traditions of the old druidic religion alive, so that the cauldron and the cross could co exist peacefull side by side? I always wondered, how different modern society would be if people practiced the same tolerance that existed in Avalon. Gosh...I really long for that place.

Do you live in Casadega florida? I grew up there for the first 11 years of my life! The casadega hotel used to have these exotic parrots in cages and they have the best pancakes....My foster parents were part of the spiritualist community there and participated in some type of group. I don't know if they were in some type of coven or something, but i distinctly remember the casadega hotel and the little shops and botiques that sell incense and pretty crystals. and OH, I remember the pancakes!! I used to go to the hotel after school and I learned about tarot and developed various spiritual gifts...astral travel and clairvoyancy being one of my strongest. My parents converted to seventh day adventism and burned everything when I was 11...my books, my drawings, my fairy and troll dolls....my incense and candles...everything was destroyed. When i wouldnt convert to their religion, they shipped me up to salem west virginia to a school called miracle meadows....i became a christian there and accepted Christ, but I couldnt embrace the whole religion. The pagan in me was too developed. Anyways, i have a grandmother in winter park Fl, and I emancipated myself from my foster parents at the age of 15 so I havent been to casadega since I was 11....I miss it. I'm in another state now putting myself through college.

I lived in Deltona as well for a short time when i was 9....near courtland and the publix and mcdonalds on elkham...its really built up since the 80's though. Its a real druggie town now. I got adopted at the orange county couthouse in downtown deland in 1994. i used to go to this really pretty park in st helen by a lake....and I went to school at deltona middle school and friendship elementary. I almost ended up at stetson university to study law, but decided i wanted to get out of state. We have a lot in common....

Hello All,

I happened to search for "past life as Avalon priestess" and found your site. I don't have detailed dreams as Amber has had...more feelings. Since I'm an Empath, I guess that makes sense. I've been fascinated with that whole period of history/region for a long time. I'm a big time reader, and have read everything I could get my hands on about that legendary age. I used to have dreams when I was small...about a very green country, wearing long dresses, and a feeling of deep mystery...being on a quest of some sort, I dreamt of a stone castle with a tower set apart. I dreamt of a group of ancient people in the lower levels of the castle...with torchlight. There was a large group surrounding a large redheaded/bearded man who looked like he was giving a "pep talk"...something like that...something about an evil creature that needed to be stopped. The details are very foggy. I remember waking from that dream, still speaking the language they all spoke. I believe it was gaelic. The feeling was...very moved, excited, ...

I have had some pretty intense dreams more recently. I do believe we live life again and again. I feel I've been in the role of priestess/healer/gaurdian...

My Lady Guinevere, thank you for inviting me to this Hub and I love to share my thoughts of Camelot and Avalon.

Unfortunately I have to start by dispelling one or two misconceptions about Camelot. The picture you have at the begining of your Hub is not Camelot, majestic as it is stone built castles were really the invention of the Normans who don’t arrive for about 600 years.

It is possible that the Isle of Avalon and the present day Glastonbury Tor are indeed one and the same place so to seek out the location of Camelot you need to go back fifteen hundred years and check out the English countryside at the time.

If you stand upon the high ground in that part of the world and look westward you can see the Severn River estuary the Bristol Channel and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Then as now the river Severn has one of the highest tidal reaches of any English river and the low lying land of what is now Somerset would have been flooded and accessible to ships and boats. Walking in the area would not have been advised even at low tide.

So if Camelot was in that area, as I believe, it would have had to be high up. A Hill was easier to defend and for that period Hill Forts were the main design and construction for a defensive structure. So that rules out the Tintagel in Cornwall as the location, Arthur may well have been born there but it is not Camelot.

If Arthur existed at all history suggests he would have been involved in the defence of the countryside against the Saxon invaders, they came from the East and would have advanced West. History records that that advance was stopped by a mighty warlord for a number of years, was that Arthur ?

So where is Camelot, I think it maybe the ancient hill fort at Cadbury in Somerset an isolated hill of limestone and sandstone. The summit is about 500 feet above sea-level, with a wide view of central Somerset, including a view of Glastonbury Tor (Avalon) 12 miles away.

There is a historical reference made by John Leland in 1542 which says, "At the very south end of the church of South-Cadbyri standeth Camallate.”

Additional facts suggest for instance the word "bury" refers to a fortification. Certainly this hill fort castle stands close to the river Cam with the villages of West Camel and Queen Camel in close proximity.

I have visited the site and even today it is still an impressive location. The defensive trenches and steep hillside are still visible and although now covered in trees you can still see and imagine the sharp wooden spikes pointing downwards to prevent an attacking horde.

I would like to think King Arthur and Camelot were more than just a legend, the period of our history following the departure of the Romans was labelled the Dark Ages, not because they were particularly dark but because of the lack of the written word from the time.

I am so glad I found this! Not sure if it's still active, but I guess I wouldn't be able to comment if it was dead.

I turned 20 earlier this month and for as long as I can remember, I have always had 'dreams' about an island which I know is surrounded by water but I can't see it because of the heavy mist. There were also 'dreams' about standing in an ancient temple, it's a very intimidating building but I feel completely at home there. There isn't alot of detail though, like I've forgotten. I don't actually remember dreaming these things, it's as if they've always been at the back of my mind.

Maybe it's nothing, maybe it's just living in Wales and sort of soaking little snippets up and constructing fantasies.

So do you think they actually are memories? or just some sort of subconscious fantasy? I'd love to think that they are memories, but maybe that's just too much.

always looking for others with similar memories-

When I close my eyes and think of peace, I think of Avalon. I hear falcons circling above a crystal pure lake that birthed Excalibur. I see goddesses breathing with the earth, healing with the ancient ways. I see balance and life. Avalon to me is the power that allows me to know myself, to empower myself and know my own magic. The energy inside me grows and develops as I learn more about myself.

I have always been drawn to the Arthurian legends. I grew up feeling that past of me was in Camelot and I can never let that mysterious and magical power go. My daughter’s name is Ava, after Avalon, and my son Malachi, for the high king of Ireland. On my leg I have his symbol, a red dragon, both for King Arthur and for his firey sprit and his element of fire. For my daughter Arielle June and Ava Mae, I have their respective elements, water and air, with a mermaid and a faerie, circled by a celtic knot. I visited Tintagel when I was 21 and sat above Merlin’s cave watching the water lap on the rocks, soaking in a feeling of comfort, home, peace and harmony. Although I personally feel closer to Morgan, I have had three past life regressions at three independent times throughout my life place me as Guinevere. As a child instead of an “invisible friend” I had both an Elf and Lancelot.

I would walk outside as a child in the forest, feeling the moon’s energy as I learned about my own strengths. I grew up as a healer- a healer working with women, childbirth, magic. My mama named me Jill Diana- Diana for the goddess of the moon, of childbirth and midwifery; the huntress. Diana, goddess of the woodlands, nursing, and healing. A goddess of light and magic, and of the night, wild and dark. I have always felt that I was like Diana. I played barefoot in between the trees behind my house as a child, singing like a wood nymph, watching for the moon to rise before I was called in to bed. I was a magical child, dreaming of catching babies under the stars, mixing healing teas, picking berries and lighting candles. I was raised with this understanding and respect- raised with the balance of nature being my religion. I often glanced at my Diana picture which hung in my bedroom, looking at the moon reflecting on her bow and arrow – reading the passage about witchcraft and midwifery, nature and healing, but I never felt drawn to a specific religious calling or sect even though many aspects of organized worship felt comfortable.. I married a Chasse, a name meaning hunter, who was also half Irish and interested in his celtic heritage. Sometimes I wonder about the fates and their collective sense of humor. But my husband’s love of history, mythology and science allowed me to keep my passion fueled. I met friends with similar interests and we formed Panthea, a collective group of moms who celebrate the celtic holidays. Then I learned of SOA through a student at Wise Woman University, where I teach the childbearing year classes, I felt like a light went off inside of me. Nothing was as strong of a memory as Arthurian teachings, goddesses of Avalon, elemental magic through nature and sense of self. It was like it all came together in a tangible collective.
