The Good Book Of Love
64The Good Book --The Holy Bible
Who says Sex isn't in the Bible?
There is Sex in the Bible and it tells alot about it. Understanding what it says and bringing the truth to the light dispells some of the myths that have gone around in religious circles. Did you know that St Augustine is the one who told religion that sex was only for reproduction? It wasn't GOD! That set the groundwork for all kinds of things and later alot of misconceptions of who said it in the Bible and where it came from. Did you also know that he was the one who dictated what the position for a man was in sexual intercourse? It wasn't GOD! Some of those things are in my previous article about pornography not so bad for men and a video of the History Of Sex. You can visit it HERE.
For this hub though we will educate you and spread knowledge and not fear of such things as Sex in the Bible.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Song of Solomon 1 (Young's Literal Translation)
Song of Solomon 1
1The Song of Songs, that [is] Solomon's.
2Let him kiss me with kisses of his mouth, For better [are] thy loves than wine.
3For fragrance [are] thy perfumes good. Perfume emptied out -- thy name, Therefore have virgins loved thee!
4Draw me: after thee we run, The king hath brought me into his inner chambers, We do joy and rejoice in thee, We mention thy loves more than wine, Uprightly they have loved thee!
5Dark [am] I, and comely, daughters of Jerusalem, As tents of Kedar, as curtains of Solomon.
6Fear me not, because I [am] very dark, Because the sun hath scorched me, The sons of my mother were angry with me, They made me keeper of the vineyards, My vineyard -- my own -- I have not kept.
7Declare to me, thou whom my soul hath loved, Where thou delightest, Where thou liest down at noon, For why am I as one veiled, By the ranks of thy companions?
8If thou knowest not, O fair among women, Get thee forth by the traces of the flock, And feed thy kids by the shepherds' dwellings!
9To my joyous one in chariots of Pharaoh, I have compared thee, my friend,
10Comely have been thy cheeks with garlands, Thy neck with chains.
11Garlands of gold we do make for thee, With studs of silver!
12While the king [is] in his circle, My spikenard hath given its fragrance.
13A bundle of myrrh [is] my beloved to me, Between my breasts it lodgeth.
14A cluster of cypress [is] my beloved to me, In the vineyards of En-Gedi!
15Lo, thou [art] fair, my friend, Lo, thou [art] fair, thine eyes [are] doves!
16Lo, thou [art] fair, my love, yea, pleasant, Yea, our couch [is] green,
17The beams of our houses [are] cedars, Our rafters [are] firs, I [am] a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys!
Song of Solomon 2
1As a lily among the thorns,
2So [is] my friend among the daughters!
3As a citron among trees of the forest, So [is] my beloved among the sons, In his shade I delighted, and sat down, And his fruit [is] sweet to my palate.
4He hath brought me in unto a house of wine, And his banner over me [is] love,
5Sustain me with grape-cakes, Support me with citrons, for I [am] sick with love.
6His left hand [is] under my head, And his right doth embrace me.
7I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes or by the hinds of the field, Stir not up nor wake the love till she please!
8The voice of my beloved! lo, this -- he is coming, Leaping on the mountains, skipping on the hills.
9My beloved [is] like to a roe, Or to a young one of the harts. Lo, this -- he is standing behind our wall, Looking from the windows, Blooming from the lattice.
10My beloved hath answered and said to me, `Rise up, my friend, my fair one, and come away,
11For lo, the winter hath passed by, The rain hath passed away -- it hath gone.
12The flowers have appeared in the earth, The time of the singing hath come, And the voice of the turtle was heard in our land,
13The fig-tree hath ripened her green figs, And the sweet-smelling vines have given forth fragrance, Rise, come, my friend, my fair one, yea, come away.
14My dove, in clefts of the rock, In a secret place of the ascent, Cause me to see thine appearance, Cause me to hear thy voice, For thy voice [is] sweet, and thy appearance comely.
15Seize ye for us foxes, Little foxes -- destroyers of vineyards, Even our sweet-smelling vineyards.
16My beloved [is] mine, and I [am] his, Who is delighting among the lilies,
17Till the day doth break forth, And the shadows have fled away, Turn, be like, my beloved, To a roe, or to a young one of the harts, On the mountains of separation!
Song of Solomon 3
1On my couch by night, I sought him whom my soul hath loved; I sought him, and I found him not!
2-- Pray, let me rise, and go round the city, In the streets and in the broad places, I seek him whom my soul hath loved! -- I sought him, and I found him not.
3The watchmen have found me, (Who are going round about the city), `Him whom my soul have loved saw ye?'
4But a little I passed on from them, Till I found him whom my soul hath loved! I seized him, and let him not go, Till I brought him in unto the house of my mother -- And the chamber of her that conceived me.
5I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes or by the hinds of the field, Stir not up nor wake the love till she please!
6Who [is] this coming up from the wilderness, Like palm-trees of smoke, Perfumed [with] myrrh and frankincense, From every powder of the merchant?
7Lo, his couch, that [is] Solomon's, Sixty mighty ones [are] around it, Of the mighty of Israel,
8All of them holding sword, taught of battle, Each his sword by his thigh, for fear at night.
9A palanquin king Solomon made for himself, Of the wood of Lebanon,
10Its pillars he made of silver, Its bottom of gold, its seat of purple, Its midst lined [with] love, By the daughters of Jerusalem.
11Go forth, and look, ye daughters of Zion, On king Solomon, with the crown, With which his mother crowned him, In the day of his espousals, And in the day of the joy of his heart!
I am enlightened LG, thanks. Sex is a wonderful thing indeed. Now I'm blushing! LOL
Great hub. I always thought there were two ?
1. Love
2. Sex
Great Hub! Good that someone says it out loud - SEX is GOOD! Another book on sex in the Bible is the wonderful one by Jonathan Kirsch - The Harlot by the Side of the Road.
Love and peace
Hi Lady G! This is a very interesting hub indeed. I'm not sure I would call these passages "sex", more like longing, eroticism, love.... Then again, the fact that the passages may be described as "sex" in many references tells us a lot about the nature of our world :-) It's not that I don't think many of these things relate to sex, I do --but one reads "sex" and thinks not of "longing" but of "release", if you get my drift. Anyhow, I enjoyed this hub, very nice perspective.
Great Hub, LG.
I find Old Testament always very...interesting.
Sex is really beautiful, because it connects two souls. Only when is misused, we talk about somethig else (like incest, raping,,, But incest and raping are in the Old testament as well)
Love& LIght
Hey Lady G, I agree that the Bible has been misinterpreted to condemn sex- and put down women aka Eve. Many churches present these concepts as if they are in the Bible but they're not.
Take for example the concept of heaven and hell. Jesus doesn't talk about hell and he certainly didn't condemn anyone to "it". In fact, he said to love our enemies and to turn the other cheek. Not that we were to be passive, but compassionate.
Hell (and purgatory) is a myth. See http://www.what-the-hell-is-hell.com/HellSiteIntro
In my experience, God is a loving God, i.e., a Professor who has created a human earth school as a learning tool so that we might become better people. And sex, being a human way to procreate and express love, can be a wonderful part of it all. Thanks for the Hub.
Hi Lady. Good piece. There are so many misconceptions and misrepresentations around the bible that the head swims just thinking of them all. Good for you for clearing up one of them.
Thanks also for the hub. It is something that was discussed in a religion class in high school. We were told that married catholic couples have more sex than others. Not sure if it is true or not, but, considering that Adam and Eve had no shame in their bodies it is important for us not to have shame either.
Yes, sex is a natural act and shouldn't be condemned and however people want to read it, to look at it, is totally up to them. Sex is everywhere, even in the Bible, great hub Lady G.
